A
and
research partnership
The INTX Network
The overall end-to-end INTX system
essentially serves the purpose of a
“collaborative networking” tool. The
network connects participants
together in real-time (i.e. via satellite)
with people working in remote field
environments, in order to provide
active engagement with authentic
data, content, people, and real-world
situations. The software was
designed to evolve as a Scalable
Software Architecture for additional
Plug & Play functionality over time,
in coordination with UCF research
partners and sponsors. Within our
package we include:
- INTX Hardware/Software License
- INTX Tech Training & Education Support
- INTX Network Operations Services
- Assessment Support
The INTX software is a product of a multi-phase research and development process focused on Real-Time, Remote, Mobile and Interactive features for online education and collaboration. The “Interactive” aspect has proven to be the most challenging of all. Bill Gates was recently quoted: “The Gates Foundation … [identified] the University of Central Florida as [a leader] in bringing education to a broader audience via the use of online videos. But making a course interactive takes lot of extra effort.” (Source: PC-Mag, 10.11.2010)

Live Content Distribution Solution
Participants
Provides worldwide access to a live,
interactive broadcast with a
collaborative network.
Field-Based Personnel broadcast their
live experiences and facilitate user
interaction via a satellite-enabled
network run by the INTX
Control Tablet.
Field-Based Personnel
The Control Tablet
The Control Tablet is the centerpiece of the INTX network, which allows for synchronous learning management from remote field sites in novel ways. The person with the Tablet controls and facilitates video communications within the network. Using the Control Tablet together with multiple cameras and broadcast-style video-mixing, participants receive “on location training” and can provide instant feedback via video and text chat. UCF and our research partners continue to add novelty through optimizations for specific high-priority vertical market integrations that rely on remote satellite communications for their broadband internet access. Thereby, INTX will differentiate itself as a more effective and reliable augmentation of traditional online education systems.
Control Tablet functions include:
- Monitor inbound/outbound media feeds
- Monitor and Trigger inbound video/voice
communications
- Conduct private back-channel communications
- Deploy polls/surveys and Monitor real-time
responses & chatrooms
- Manipulate and Monitor custom software functions
(GPS Location, Bandwidth, Media Stream Quality,
User Metrics, Weather Gadgets, etc.)
- Scalable Software Architecture for additional Plug &
Play functionality
- Secure Encrypted Communications
- Compatible with Rugged, Military-Spec Hardware
(i.e. Panasonic Toughbook )
Additional Features in Development:
- “Telestrator Overlay” Widget
The Portal
The student portal application is made up of five components: Remote Video Stream, Live Question Queue, Text Chat, Attendance Display, and a multi-component video-chat submittal tool. The remote video display shows the main webcast and will also shows (via picture-in-picture) a participant’s question of recorded or live video. The scrolling text at the bottom provides a contextual element to aid the participant in understanding the webcast content. The Video-Chat tool allows participants to enter live and pre-recorded questions into the Control Tablet’s Question Queue. Question Queue shows the participants which questions have been submitted and provides the opportunity to vote on questions the participants would like answered first. The Chat component allows the viewers to post text messages to the group of fellow participants in the webcast session. They can see who is online by looking at the Attendance display.
Services
INTX Software Support
INTX is its own software licensing agent. The license is purchasable through us along with training on to use the software and best practices for effective remote classroom management.
INTX Field Support
In the field, we can provide operational personnel to aid with video streaming and A/V equipment. INTX can also provide personnel to manage the servers. INTX can aid with deploying assessment studies that gauge the learning experience of the participants. INTX has been providing these services at the University of Central Florida since 2007, and we would like to share this wealth of experience with the rest of the world.
Antenna Options
Mobile broadband satellite communication antennas are available for purchase, and there is also an option to rent an antenna. For specific specifications on antennas, please click here to visit our technology partner’s website: (www.cobham.com/satcom).
Bandwidth Services
We have general plans that include Annual Contracts as well as Short-term Contracts. If needed, we can also research and set up a Broadcast License that meets the requirements of regulatory agencies at the location where a satellite antenna is being used. We have options for any global project.
