Welcome to my home! My name is Alyssa Barrack. I am a PhD student in Texts and Technology at UCF and an enthusiastic event manager and theater artist, with previous degrees including an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies (focus on audience studies in film, theatre, and video games) from UCF, a BA in Theater Arts from USF, and a BA in Professional Writing, Rhetoric, and Technology from USF. I have a large collection of varied interest personal, professional, and academic, some of which can be seen here - feel free to explore selected details below and reach out at any time!
Identifying as a “jack of all trades”, I have professional experience in a variety of positions such as event management/planning, production dramaturgy, scenic design/construction/painting, lighting design for productions, professional writing, adjunct teaching, and more. My deep commitment to interdisciplinary study is a reflection of my lifelong inability to pick a lane, a feature in which I take a lot of pride. In my spare time I enjoy a similarly stratified collection of hobbies and pass-times, including but not limited to watching movies, crocheting, baking and cooking, playing video games, crafting with very loose structure, and reading.
My research areas of interest generally lie among and at the intersections of theater, film, and games. I am interested in theater-making in a digital world, and how to translate the ephemeral nature of live production to audiences who may not be able to be, well, live. Interests also include audience studies, absurdism, horror and adjacent genres, reflexivity, and the gamification of dramaturgy. In my head, none of these topics are unrelated.
I keep my LinkedIn page, linked in the Contact Me section below, largely up to date with resume line items and descriptions, please don’t hesitate to connect with me there!
Ihave a couple of published pieces to link here as well:
